CCSI Workshop
CCSI hosted three workshops to share information about the latest controls methods and technologies, and to encourage networking among the leading voices in the controls field.
Third Workshop on Control of Complex Systems (2017)
Experts in the control field gathered for CCSI’s third annual workshop, "Control of Complex Systems: An Integrated Perspective on Modern Power Grid Control." The workshop was held May 22-23, 2017, in conjunction with the American Control Conference in Seattle. Sonja Glavaski, program director for the DOE Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy, keynoted the event. Other speakers included representatives from industry, research and academia. The event focused on three technical areas: Dynamics and Control, Analytics and Optimization, and Economics and Market Design, and also included industry-focused sessions and "lightning round" presentations that allowed researchers to discuss their projects and findings.

The workshop was attended by approximately 50 people, many of whom are leading experts in the control field.

Dr. Veronica Adetola of the United Technologies Research Center provided an overview of UTRC’s buildings-to-grid research.
Second Workshop on Control of Complex Systems (2016)
The workshop attracted 61 participants, focused on the theme of distributed and hierarchical control for power grids, and was held in Portland, Oregon, March 22-23, 2016. Organized similarly to the first workshop, presentations and breakout sessions addressed four topics: 1) Transforming the power grid through customer resource engagement, 2) Control architecture: framing the future grid, 3) Test beds for modernizing the electric power grid, and 4) Buildings as intelligent and reliable grid energy resources.

The Second Workshop on Control of Complex Systems brought together national and international experts to discuss distributed and hierarchical control for power grids.

CCSI researchers presented some of their latest findings to workshop participants during the event's poster session.
First Workshop on Control of Complex Systems (2015)
This initial workshop, which focused on the theme of building-grid integration, was held in Seattle, Wash., March 9-10, 2015. The workshop was organized around four topics: 1) Distributed control of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems in commercial buildings, 2) Tools for enabling rapid deployment of control systems, 3) Demonstrations and test beds for buildings-to-grid integration, and 4) Campus or building portfolio energy management. Keynote presentations were given on each topic, followed by breakout sessions that addressed key questions surrounding the topic. The workshop brought together 63 leading researchers and developers from industry, academia, government, and other research institutions.
